Cal/OSHA Issues Advisory on Wildfire Smoke Protection for Workers

With the powerful Southern California fires continuing to grow, Cal/OSHA has issued an Advisory to remind employers to protect workers from unhealthy air due to the wildfire smoke exposure. Because of high winds, the wildfire smoke can impact areas well beyond the actual fires. What you need to know: Cal/OSHA’s Protection from Wildfire Smoke standard CCR 51412.1, requires employers to protect workers from unhealthy air due to wildfire smoke. Please review our Wildfire Smoke Safety Talk by logging into MemberPlus under the Risk Control tab, for an overview of potential health effects of wildfire smoke exposure, and step-by-step guidance on what employers must do to protect employees.

If you have any questions, please email Henri Castro, Risk Control Manager, at hcastro@sdrma.org or Eric Lucero, Sr. Risk Control Specialist at elucero@sdrma.org or call us at 800.537.7790.
